On Tuesday April 20th 2008, the MCN minister, General Khudaidad visited Ghazni province. During his visit, he met with the government authorities, PDCs and the local communities. Ghazni province was declared as “poppy free” by the MCN minister and an amount of one million US dollars is allocated by the GPI program as a reward for the rehabilitation of the province and encouragement of its people.
“Ghazni province has been entirely eradicated. In order to encourage the people of this province, some intake dams, roads and other infrastructures of this province will be rehabilitated”, General Khudaidad told the press during his visit.
“In some provinces of the country, poppy cultivation is the only cause for the presence of Taliban and terrorism, and more attention is needed by the international community in this regard.”
