The Minister of Counter Narcotics H.E General Khodaidad welcomes the finding of the recent report by U.S Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP)-we have 18 provinces poppy free this year and a decrease both in cultivation and production, the credit of this whole success goes to people of Afghanistan, who in very tough situation in fight against terrorism and the its feeding tube Drug trafficking is losing their lives and battling it at the best as they can

The Communities of Ghor, Faryab, Ghazni and Bamyan provinces are rewarded with US$ 5.6 m for not cultivating poppy (Press Release)

Today, HE General Khodaidad, Minister of Counter Narcotics and Honorable Valerie C. Fowler, From US Embassy Kabul signed an agreement worth of US$ 5.6m to support four provinces that are either poppy free or have had significant reduction during 2007 poppy cultivation season.
The reward money will be used to fund priority provincial development projects that are selected and prioritized by the Provincial Development Committees.

First of all, I would like to welcome Mr. Anderew Shofar and the rest of the participants: After the announcement of the Annual Drug Survey Report for the year 2008, and according to the commitments of the Ministry of Counter Narcotics to the provinces of the country, this Ministry is seeking international assistance for 18 provinces of the country that were already poppy free. We Afghans have always been an inquisitive and open-minded-people, but some of our biggest disasters came from recklessly importing bad ideas.
Communism was one, and the Soviet invasion that tried to install it left a million of us dead and another million permanently disabled, even ignoring the horrible civil war that followed. The twisted version of Islam brought by Al-Qaeda and adopted by the Taliban was another disastrous import, completely alien to Afghanistan’s own open-hearted religious tradition. Poppy cultivation decreased by 19% with more than half of the country gaining poppy free status (Press Release)

The Joint Ministry of Counter Narcotics and UNODC Annual Opium Survey Report indicate a 19% reduction in cultivation level this year (153,000 ha), compared to last year’s 193,000 ha. Meanwhile, poppy free provinces have been increased from 13 to 18 provinces. “This is a remarkable achievement, which is achieved as a result of extensive efforts by the Government supported by international community.” said General Khodaidad, Minister of Counter Narcotics of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan at a joint press conference with Antonio Maria Costa Executive Director of the UNODC...
