Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
Ministry of Counter Narcotics
Office of the Spokesperson
October 27th, 2008
The Minister of Counter Narcotics H.E General Khodaidad welcomes the finding of the recent report by U.S Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP)-we have 18 provinces poppy free this year and a decrease both in cultivation and production, the credit of this whole success goes to people of Afghanistan, who in very tough situation in fight against terrorism and the its feeding tube Drug trafficking is losing their lives and battling it at the best as they can.
In the current year of 2008 We had lost more than 77 Police officers in anti Narcotics operations and more than 100 injured, we are thankful to the Government of United States for their continuing support in fight against Narcotics I am insisting once again on the international community to help and support GPI (Good Performance Initiative as this initiative is the window toward poppy free Afghanistan. we have to keep and make more provinces poppy free….i am sure with kindly support of other donor nations very soon Inshallah Afghanistan will be poppy free, and far as s the concerns about the figures in survey there are difference of mythologies both MCN-UNODC and U.S ONDCP survey shows a decrease and 18 Provinces Poppy free and that what so important.
Once again I would like to congratulate all the provinces who got themselves away from this devil and evil phenomena of poppy cultivation.
